A while ago I tried the shampoo bar Chagrin Valley Soap Babassu Marsh Mallow which I had bought at Amazon. It took some getting used to, but this solid soap is very fine. This makes me wonder what exactly are the benefits of a solid soap compared with a liquid soap.
The use of liquid soaps
Though earlier it was quite normal to use blocks of soap, we find it common today to wash our hair and skin with liquid soap. Walk to a drug store like CVS Pharmacy and inside you’ll mostly see shower gels and shampoos in liquid form.
In the world of media and advertising they mainly focused on liquid soaps. For example, it mainly on TV advertised bottles with liquid soap brands like Kneipp or Dove . It is often said in these commercials that liquid soaps are better, healthier and more hygienic. But is that really true?
Advantages of a solid soap
This focus on liquid soaps, we seem to forget the solid soaps. Yet there are plenty of reasons why you might opt for a solid soap.
No artificial ingredients
In contrast to liquid soaps, solid soaps do not contain any artificial substances. Many solid soaps contain only natural ingredients like natural oils and butters, herbal extracts and juices. The ingredients are added to the soap, are all active substances that have an added value for the care of skin and hair.
Compare once jokingly the ingredient list on a bottle of liquid soap on the ingredient list of a solid soap. Although you will be familiar ingredients in the ingredient list of the solid soap, you probably will not recognize all the ingredients on the ingredients list of a bottle of liquid soap!
Many liquid soaps consist mainly of water and artificial ingredients. Despite some liquid soaps contain natural ingredients, adding chemical ingredients is inevitable. When a product contains water, there should be namely, a preservative may be added to prevent the emergence of fungi.
Because solid soaps contain no water, they do not need preservatives. As a result, solid soaps are lot more natural, making them kinder to your skin and hair. In addition, preservatives are difficult to break down by nature, so they have a negative impact on the environment. The absence of preservatives in solid soaps is not only good for yourself, but also for the environment!
Environmentally friendly packaging
Did you know that packs of bottles of liquid soap are often more expensive than the content?Although the ingredients are often fairly inexpensive, lots of money is spent on designing and producing a beautiful package. Eventually you pay as a consumer not only the content but also the costs incurred for packaging! In addition, most of the bottles are also not recyclable, so they have to be burned in incinerators and thus are harmful to the environment.
In contrast to liquid soaps, solid soaps may be easily packaged in environmentally friendly material, such as recycled paper or cardboard. It does not contain any water, which would be able to wet the packing. Instead of environmentally friendly packaging, and in some cases are even solid soaps sold in bulk! An example is Lush .
Economical to use
Generally many people think that you need more of a liquid soap to clean yourself than is actually the case. In addition, a bottle of liquid soap is designed so that the formula easily comes out of the bottle. This allows you to quickly use too much, even if you know you need less.
Because you (consciously or unconsciously) used quick too, is a liquid soap bottle much faster than a piece of solid soap. A solid soap can be too much slower suits. This has created a piece solid soap much more economical in use and lasts much longer.
Where to buy solid soaps?
Although the solid soaps through the years have had to make place for the next liquid soaps, they are starting again to increase in popularity. Thanks to the advent of various specialty stores, you can now easily buy solid soaps. Although they mainly sell soaps for washing the skin, there are also soaps are available to clean your hair.
