Hey ladies and gentleman welcome back to another article. Thank you so much for tuning in. I want to take a minute to talk to you about a little fragrance that I recently discovered. The fragrance is by Salvatore Ferragamo and it goes by the name Acqua Essenziale Colonia.
Now this one is a 2015 release and the perfumer behind this one is Alberto Morillas. Alberto Morillas has also done the famous Acqua di Giò Essenza by Giorgio Armani. He has also done one of my favorite fragrances which is by Eau d’Italie is it called Acqua Decima.
I think it shows his versatility has a perfumer has it pertains to fresh scents. He can go from making something so natural and refreshing summer like Acqua Decima with notes of citrus and mint to the very popular Acqua di Giò Profumo by Giorgio Armani which is extremely popular.
Here is another one because the original Acqua Essenziale came out a couple years before this one in 2013 then the following year in 2014 they released Acqua Essenziale Blu and then in 2015 they released the Colonia version. Colonia meaning cologne in Italian.
This fragrance is classified as an Aromatic fougère because of its use of some herbal notes like clary sage as well as the use of the note lavender.I wanna start things off by taking a look at the presentation.
So here on the box you will have the name of the fragrance along with the company’s name printed on the front. You also have the name Salvatore Ferragamo printed towards the bottom.
The size and concentration that we were reviewing is the Eau De Toilette. At the very bottom you will find the UPC Code (8032529112102) as well as the serial number printed to the right in black letters and numbers. Also, you have the ingredients at the bottom.
On the back of the box some more information will be there and finally the Salvatore Ferragamo on the top. This is pretty much it has the box goes and not much more to it.
As far as the bottle goes it has a pretty cool design that is in synchronicity with the box. We can see the name of the fragrance and the company on the front of the bottle. Salvatore Ferragamo also written towards the bottom back of the bottle.
We also have this white gridded pattern on the back which i think looks pretty cool. It can also be seen from the front as well which is a cool design. On the bottom is where we will find a sticker with your pertinent information.
Looking at the cap it does click into place and has a rubber rub on it. This makes for an easy way to take off the cap. The distribution is a bit narrow though so i would be careful and spray from a distance. Wrapping up, this was the presentation for Acqua Essenziale Colonia by Salvatore Ferragamo.
Now its difficult to overlook that initial blast of freshness that you will get from this scent. As soon as you open it up it will smell very fresh and citrusy, there are some real good citrus going on in this fragrance. I think i was a little bit surprised when i picked this up from amazon.
I wasn’t expecting to smell as much from it. I know the original is more an Aquatic and it has that much going for it. This one isn’t aquatic, it has those watery notes in it but it pays more an emphasis to the citrus and if your a fan of citrus chances are you will like this one.
So it has the note of bergamot and I can vouch for that , it doesn’t smell like lime, lemon or orange because I think those fruits have distinctive smells as does bergamot. But I believe this one is more on the generic side meaning it isn’t like a unique citrus appeal characterizing this particular smell.
That being said it is a really nice citrus and the way it opens up is pretty much what you will be left with in the dry down. I know some other notes on this sitting in there such as Vetiver.
You also have a little bit of fougère quality due to the fact of that it contains lavender. I don’t get a lot of lavender in this fragrance but perhaps a little bit of sage or what they are trying to pass off as Sage giving this fragrance a sort of fresh feel.
Overall I think the Acqua Essenziale Colonia is a really nice casual scent. It’s inexpensive, its a great scent to wear if your running errands or lounging around the house or even if you wanna go out and play a round of basketball or something like that.
This scent is inoffensive. Its likely to garner you compliments because people are going to enjoy the way that it smells. Its just very fresh, linear, citrusy ,its evocative of the summer and its a very sort of polite and accommodating scent.
This is a fragrance which i believe I will be wearing a lot in the summer. Its not my favorite but it certainly gets the job done and I feel great every time I wear it. So lets finish up everything by taking a look at the rating.
First up we have uniqueness in overall smell.I don’t find this smell to be all that unique. It smells very similar to Nautica Voyage Sport. It smells to me a little bit like Mont Blanc Legend Spirit and a lot of these fresh citrusy scents that we’re seeing hitting the market these days. Now, I know a lot of people online are saying that this smells a lot like Creed Himalaya and I can see what people mean.
Personally I think Paco Rabanne Xs smells more like Himalaya than this does. But none the less I can see why people are saying that because it does have a citrusy feeling to it. I think it does the job very well, I think they were cognizant and mindful when they were gonna release it. To which demographic they wanted it to cater and i think the execution is pretty good but the smell is a bit on the generic side.
As far as longevity is concerned, this will last about 5 hours . Really the longevity on this is subpar but it fits within that constrain of it being a Eau De Toilette. You would expect between four to six hours and thats exactly what is given.
Projection was good for the first half hour. Like I said this is a citrusy dominated scent and of course citrus is a volatile note or notes and unfortunately this one does not really jump up off your skin pass the first half to one hour mark . It does sit closely to the skin for about an hour an a half and then it becomes a skin scent warrantying to be reapplied.
Then coming to versatility . Its pretty high, I just wouldn’t wear it in the winter months. I think its unisex . You can wear it no matter what age you are but i think it should just be restricted to the summer because of the lack of performance .
Then presentation on this one is nice, its not great, nothing too fancy. But I kinda like what they did with the bottle with the silver metallic look to it. But then again I don’t think it blows anything out of the water. I don’t think it is earth shattering.
If I were to give this fragrance an overall rating. I would give it a 2 out of 5. Now I do think this is a nice scent but I just think that it has a one track mindset. It set out to accomplish a goal however big or small that goal may be.
I think it accomplished that goal but for somebody who is a connoisseur, for somebody who has amassed significant number of bottles in their collection who is looking for the next best thing. While this is a great scent and it is very uplifting and refreshing.
I don’t necessarily think it is that great of a scent that I would pay full retail to buy it. Absolutely not . None the less it is a nice scent and it will get you compliments.
So, there you have it guys. Thank you so much for reading. This was my review of Salvatore Ferragamo’s Acqua Essenziale Colonia.
